Design Trend Alert: The Color Gray

Trend can be a scary word when designing your event.  As we learned when looking at pictures from many weddings in the 80's a trend can quickly date your wedding.  But if done right, a trend can be a wonderful addition that looks both current and timeless.  One color that seemed to have taken off last year and continues being very popular in 2011 is the use of gray as part of the color scheme.  For those that remember their 3rd grade art projects, you'll recall that gray is a "neutral" color created by all three primary colors therefore making it a perfect compliment to any other color in your event.  Its the same reason that brown became such a popular color in weddings several years ago but it seems gray is taking over.

Below you can see a photo shoot by Dan Doke that Dana did for La Bella Bride Magazine last Spring.  The granite (also referred to as graphite in some wedding color samples) color scheme is the focal point but the pinks, purples, and whites from the flowers go perfectly with the entire look.

The inspiration for this was from the age of innocence; lush, regal and romantic.  Look closely and you will see each chair is detailed with a strand of individual orchid blossoms sewed vertically on satin ribbon and finished off with a crystal drop!
This overhead shot above, and then close-up below, highlights the detail of the orchids and crystal drops carried throughout the design and presentation to the waiting guests. Detail, detail,...extremely important in the art of design!
We layered the linen cloths by using a full size cloth as a topper on the table and gave is a rumpled look to add to the lush texture of the design and romantic feel of the dinner.  Subtle candle light reflecting off the crystal further romanced the guests.
You can also see this fun color scheme come to life in these real wedding features from Style Me Pretty.
